GRANTS
The York Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling over $1.8
million since 2000. Grants were awarded to non-profit organizations
and government agencies throughout the York area for a variety of
projects and programs.
Objective
The objective of the Foundation’s Grants Program is to provide
financial assistance to not-for-profit charitable organizations
for programs and/or projects that will enhance the quality of life for
all residents of the York community.
Grant
Funding
Grants are funded with gifts of money from private and corporate
donors. The donors usually specify the types of programs and/or
projects to be funded with their gift.
Grants are made for charitable purposes that will enhance and
improve the quality of life for the residents of York community
regardless
of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap,
veteran status, or marital status. The purpose of the grant must
be consistent
with such specific charitable areas of interest as recognized
by the Foundation.
Grants
Committee
The Grants Committee is responsible for reviewing grant applications
and making recommendations to the Foundation Board of Directors,
in accordance with the wishes of the donor, as to which grant
applications should be approved. The Grants Committee meets
on an as needed
basis.
A grant application is available to download on line, and the
Foundation office will provide additional information.
Eligibility
Requirements
The York Community Foundation awards grants to both private
and public services. The grants are made only to agencies
classified as:

• government agencies using the grant for capital expenditures and/or
capital improvements.
Applicants must have a plan for future funding and support
from other sources if funding is for an ongoing program.
The
York Community Foundation serves the people of the York community
in York, Nebraska. Grants are awarded to organizations
in the
York community, or those serving a significant number of
York County residents.
Except in unusual circumstances, the Foundation does not
award grants for:
• individuals
• operating expenses
• annual fund drives
• elimination of previously incurred deficits
• established or new endowment funds
• travel or related expenses for individuals or groups
•
religious organizations where funds would be used in whole or in
part to further the organization’s sectarian purposes.

awards grants from the seven basic areas of philanthropy:

Funding
Limits
The Foundation does not normally fund entire projects or programs.
Preference is given to organizations that have
raised a portion of the required funds, and/or enlisted the financial
support
of other organizations. Grants are awarded for a definite purpose,
and for a specified period of time period - normally twelve months
or less.
